It is the easternmost airport in Greece, 40 km from the Turkish border at Kipoi, and a domestic airport above all: Aegean, Olympic and Sky Express connect Athens and, in season, Thessaloniki and Crete for the city, the university and the border region. Around 300,000 passengers a year.
The terminal is small and run by the Greek civil aviation authority: one hall, taxi rank and car park in front. Alexandroupoli town, the lighthouse promenade, the port for Samothrace and the railway station are all a quarter of an hour away.
