Guide to Ikaria Airport

Ikaria Airport “Ikaros” (JIK) sits on the rocky eastern tip of the island at Fanari, 12 km from Agios Kirykos, the capital, on a runway squeezed between the mountain and the sea. Only turboprops use it: Olympic Air and Sky Express fly from Athens daily all year, with summer hops to Samos, Lemnos, Thessaloniki and Heraklion. There are no international flights.

Ikaria is long, mountainous and famous for its longevity and its all-night panigyria. The airport is at one end and the popular north coast, Evdilos, Armenistis and Nas, is a winding hour and a half at the other; plan the transfer with the flight.

Transport

Agios Kirykos is 12 km away, about 20 minutes and €25 by taxi. Evdilos and the north coast are over an hour on mountain roads, about €55–70. There is no airport bus; book a taxi or hire car for your flight.

Local tips

  • Book your transport before you land, especially for the north coast: it is an hour and a half away, and the taxis are few.
  • The runway is short and exposed; wind delays or diverts the turboprops a few times a season. Check the live board, and know the ferry days as a fallback.
  • An hour before departure is enough; the terminal is one hall and the queue is one aircraft.
