Nea Anchialos Airport: frequently asked questions

Very few or none. The charters run from May to October and the Athens link is seasonal; check the live board or the timetable for the current month.

Two hours before an international charter is comfortable; the hall is small and the queue is one aircraft long. Ninety minutes is enough for the Athens flight.

About 26 km south-west of the city at Nea Anchialos: 30 minutes by car and roughly €40 by taxi.

Not from the terminal. The Volos–Almyros KTEL stops in Nea Anchialos village, a €10 taxi ride away. Charter passengers use their tour operator’s coach.

By taxi for about €65, an hour or more depending on the village, or by hire car through Volos. Hotels in Pelion can arrange a transfer.

Taxi to Volos port, about €40 and 30 minutes, then a ferry or hydrofoil: Skiathos in 90 minutes to two and a half hours, Skopelos and Alonissos beyond. Book the crossing ahead in high summer.

In the car park beside the terminal, from about €2 an hour or €8 a day, first 15 minutes free. It is rarely full.

Avis, Budget, Hertz, Sixt and Europcar alongside Volos companies, with desks for the summer flights and delivery by reservation in the off-season. Book ahead in July and August.

Almost certainly. The villages and beaches are spread over a mountain, the bus reaches each a few times a day, and the airport itself is 26 km from Volos. A small car suits the narrow lanes.
